The posting, as the company wrote it
Elliptic has been tracking down crypto crime since 2013, trusted by banks, businesses, and governments worldwide to keep the financial system safe. Today, our compliance tools cover the large majority of global crypto exchange volume, and a $120m Series D is fueling the next stage of that work.
Elliptic is building an AI fluent workforce. Across our Product, Engineering, Design and Intelligence we’re going beyond giving everyone the tools. We’re setting new standards. Using AI to transform how we build and work every day to deliver on our market opportunity. Put another way our teams iterate alongside agentic systems applying judgement to build world class systems.
This role is an Adoptive AI fluency role. That means AI has already changed how you work, not just how fast, and you enjoy using AI and agentic systems to operate more effectively.
You’ll personally design and build the data systems behind every Elliptic product, turning raw blockchain activity into the intelligence that helps the world fight financial crime. Few engineering roles have impact this measurable, or this direct.
Our engineering culture is built on openness, autonomy and continuous improvement. We favour functional programming for clarity and reliability, and rely on peer review, data-driven decisions and open discussion, in a team that values curiosity, technical excellence and shared impact over hierarchy.
What you’ll bring
- Hands-on production experience in Scala or another modern language (Python, Java), ideally with a functional programming approach
- Experience building and running distributed data systems in the cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure), using Spark or Databricks
- Solid grounding in data modelling and workflow orchestration
- The judgement to balance scalability, performance and maintainability
- Fluency with AI tools as part of your daily workflow, you use them to move faster and think better, and you know when not to trust them
Bonus points for stream processing and event-driven architecture, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), Docker and Kubernetes, or an interest in crypto and blockchain.
What you’ll do
- Write, ship, and maintain production code as a hands-on senior engineer
- Architect large-scale distributed data pipelines across batch and streaming
- Drive technical decisions and help shape the data engineering roadmap
- Raise the bar through peer review and mentoring, and improve platform reliability, observability and cost efficiency
What we offer you
- Hybrid working: work from almost anywhere for up to 90 days a year
- Home office budget: $650 to set up your space
- Learning & development: $1,000 a year for anything, agreed with your manager, that supports your growth
- Leave: 25 days of annual leave plus US public holidays, and an extra day off for your birthday
- Parental leave: 16 weeks fully paid for eligible employees, regardless of gender or whether you become a parent by birth or adoption
- Healthcare: comprehensive medical, dental and vision cover through a range of providers (including Tufts, Kaiser, Aetna, UHC and Blue Shield of CA), with generous premium contributions for you and your dependents
- 401k: company match included
- Mental health: full access to Spill
We hire for trajectory as much as track record. If this sounds like you, apply even if you don’t tick every box, we’d genuinely rather meet you than miss you.
