Employment: Full-time
Zipliens is a leading lien resolution company that specializes in streamlining the lien process for personal injury law firms. We are looking for proactive, results-driven individuals to join our dynamic team.
The Senior Product Engineer owns technically complex product initiatives from problem definition through release. You'll have the accountability of a product owner (you own the outcome, the scope decisions, and getting it across the finish line to customer success and marketing) along with the engineering depth to design and build much of the solution yourself.
This is not a traditional product owner role and not a traditional engineering role. A product owner defines what should be built and hands it off. Our engineering team owns the platform: the frameworks, components, security, performance, and delivery standards that keep our application consistent. A Product Engineer builds on that foundation to deliver usable features quickly. You'll take an ambiguous problem, understand the domain and the users, make sound decisions about application logic and data flow, and carry it from early prototype to beta to full release.
This role sits on the product team and reports to the CTO. Today, the CTO sets priorities and assigns initiatives across this role and our product owner. You'll be assigned initiatives where a handoff between a product owner and an engineer would lose too much in translation: complex workflow-driven features, rapid prototyping, AI integrations, and UI overhauls that require deep knowledge of how the application works underneath.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Deliver product initiatives
Take high-ambiguity projects from discovery through release, including scoping, technical design, implementation, QA coordination, rollout, handoff to customer success and marketing, and post-launch iteration.
Turn early ideas into working prototypes quickly, test them with real users, and carry the strongest ones through beta to full release.
Set clear acceptance criteria and success metrics, instrument features with product analytics, and use the data to decide what to improve next.
Build complex, user-facing features
Design and deliver workflow-driven, multi-step features with state, rules, and edge cases, such as lien intake, case status progression, negotiation tracking, and approval flows, where the logic matters as much as the interface.
Identify where AI can meaningfully reduce manual work (document processing, intake automation, data extraction, summarization) and turn those ideas into reliable, production-grade features with appropriate human review and fallbacks.
Rework confusing or outdated screens into clear, consistent experiences, partnering with product design and using the established design system and component framework rather than reinventing them.
Build features hands-on within the engineering team's frameworks and standards. Bring in engineers for larger pieces of work, such as significant backend changes, and take part in architectural decisions.
Partner across the business and team
Work directly with lien negotiators, customer success, support, and law firm users to understand the real problem, then make informed tradeoffs on scope, complexity, and timeline.
Bring user data and findings into roadmap and prioritization discussions.
Raise the bar on how we build. Model a fast, pragmatic, user-centered approach to delivery, and share what you learn with the product and engineering teams.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in software engineering, with meaningful time spent building user-facing applications (frontend, full-stack, or UI engineering backgrounds are a strong fit)
Demonstrated ownership of features or projects from concept to production, beyond executing predefined tickets
Experience working directly with users or business stakeholders to define requirements, and keeping those relationships strong through delivery
Strong understanding of application design: data models, state management, business logic, APIs, and how frontend and backend fit together
Product instincts: you ask "why" before "how," notice when a requirement doesn't match the user's actual problem, and are comfortable cutting scope to ship something valuable
Ability to work through ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information
Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences, including explaining engineering complexity in plain terms to stakeholders
Hands-on experience with a modern web stack (Python/Django and a modern JavaScript framework preferred)
Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features (prompt design, structured outputs, evaluation, document processing)
Familiarity with product analytics tools (e.g., PostHog), project tracking tools like Jira/Confluence, and cloud platforms like AWS
Ability to work on-site at least three days per week (60%) in our Franklin, TN office
Nice to Have
Experience in a product owner, product manager, or technical lead capacity
Background in workflow-heavy B2B software, legal tech, healthcare, insurance, or claims processing
Experience integrating with third-party platforms such as Salesforce or legal case management systems like Filevine
