The posting, as the company wrote it
At Fastbreak AI, we’re here to change how sports operations are managed. With the power of artificial intelligence, we deliver precision scheduling, seamless league and tournament management, group travel, and smarter sponsorship activation for professional, college, and amateur sports organizations. Our platforms support everything from the pro league office to the weekend youth tournament. As our footprint grows, so does the business behind it, and we need a finance leader who can help us scale it with the same precision we bring to the game.
We’re hiring a Controller to own accounting at Fastbreak AI and build the financial foundation we’ll scale on. In this role, you’ll run the month-end close, keep our books accurate and audit-ready, and put the controls, policies and processes in place that let us grow without losing visibility into the numbers.
Responsibilities
Own the month-end close, targeting completion within 10 business days, and deliver accurate monthly financial statements.
Design and implement scalable internal controls, including segregation of duties, approval matrices, and review procedures.
Write and maintain core finance policies covering expenses, procurement, revenue recognition, capitalization, and delegation of authority.
Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and deferred revenue schedules, and perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor onboarding, bill pay, invoicing, and collections.
Maintain the chart of accounts, fixed asset register, and payroll accounting.
Administer Ramp, including card policies, approval workflows, and a clean, correctly coded sync to the general ledger.
Track cash, burn, and runway, and support budgeting, forecasting, and board and investor reporting.
Coordinate with outside advisors on income and sales tax, 1099s, R&D credits, state filings, and 409A valuations.
Prepare the company for its first financial statement audit and evaluate finance systems as we scale.
Requirements
6+ years of accounting experience, including time as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including ASC 606 and ASC 842.
Proven track record of building close processes and internal controls.
Hands-on experience with Ramp or a similar spend platform, and Sage Intacct or a comparable GL.
A builder's mindset: comfortable doing the work yourself while designing systems that scale.
Public accounting experience followed by time at a high-growth startup a plus.
Experience leading a first audit or an ERP migration helpful.
Exposure to SaaS metrics, multi-entity accounting, or multi-state tax.
Benefits
Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.
Health, dental, and vision insurance to keep you covered.
A 401(k) plan with employer contributions to invest in your future.
A flat start up environment where your ideas matter, and innovation thrives.
The opportunity to shape the future of a rapidly growing and well-funded company and make your mark.
